Just do it!
Tara McGrath, FOUR KINGS, Anglesea
I have been watching a small cafe on the Great Ocean Road in Anglesea for some time. It was a cafe that had been recently gone into receivership however was re branded and re-opened by local Tara McGrath. Tara is a self confessed ‘hospo’ addict having worked in her family friend’s bakery from the tender age of 12 under the watchful eye of her Mother. It shows, only experience will help someone opening up their first cafe with such energy and gusto. The joint is now packed and Padre coffee ‘Daddy’s Girl Blend’ flows constantly out the door via their tidy three group slayer, the state of the art coffee machine for those not in the know.
I asked Tara how the start-up phase has been for her, obviously good, but for her own journey. She shared that her greatest challenge is, other than feeling vulnerable in a town that is watching her progress, is that she found it hard to become the boss and be assertive even though having managed venues and loving it, it isn’t quite the same when it is her name and pride are on the line now.
On the video clip I asked for a tip and in short she shared her belief is ‘just do it’. By this she is not saying don’t do your due diligence but don’t over think or hesitate when making decisions. We all know what procrastination feels like.
Tara’s previous life included studying alternative medicine with 'Nano philosophy' in Jarkata, Indonesia, this serves her well as she feels sometimes like a psychologist and philosophises with customers and she will slowly introduce some menu items that are not only healthy but very moorish.
You gotta stop here on your way down the Great Ocean Road, there’s a great selection of baked goods and build your own breakfast off the menu. On the hush hush I spied another hospitality great in the kitchen the other day. Four Kings is next to Go Ride a Wave and the hardware store opposite Main Beach.
